I've spent a lot of time for the past couple days offline, usually taking naps because that is what I do.
This is an MMD thing, so if you don't care/don't know about it or its drama; this journal will probably confuse/bore you.
Over that time I've come up with a couple of thoughts, take this as a rant or not; I'm not mad so..
When people say that others are selfish for not giving out their edits.
There's a lot of things wrong with this type of statement to me.
I mean, for starters.. it's not allowed.
A lot of modelers don't allow giving out edits of their models; but people still do it anyways. They give them to their friends. Family. Some even just write in the description to note them for a trade, or a distribution link.
Also: not to related to this, but.. PLEASE STOP SAYING THAT THE CREATOR OF MMD DID NOT INTEND FOR THERE TO BE MMD RULES, BECAUSE THAT IS JUST BULLSHIT.
He wrote, specifically, that the only rules are the MODELER rules.
And yeah, that's against the rules. But we all know it's never going to change.
Anyways back to the point, before I begin rambling.
How is it selfish?
I mean, when I make an edit, I usually like it. Yeah, even if I write 'I HATE HOW THIS TURNED OUT', a small part of me likes it. Why? Because it reminds me of when I couldn't edit for shit.
And also it reminds me that it's something unique. That nobody else has this exact edit I made. Sure, sometimes--most of the time--I'm willing to give it to friends. But.. that's my decision, isn't it? I decide, and I decide on people whom I can trust.
To me, it's like the new thing I got at the store. Something totally original that not everybody has.
What I'm trying to say; is look at it this way.
Imagine you just bought yourself a new pair of shoes. Nobody else has this exact design. You're the only one. You don't really want EVERYONE ELSE to suddenly get them and then all of a sudden you're just another grain of sand on a beach.
It's hard to explain, I guess.
And the other major thing.
I'll sum it up here, I don't intend for this to be totally long.
I think people should stop doing all this support stuff for the modelers and such. Yes, they're people.
Yes, they're being mistreated.
Yes, what's going on is unfair.
But no amount of support pictures, groups, bashing on rule breakers, etc. is going to change this.
It never has.
Best thing we can do? Follow the rules, at least if you break them do it privately. Don't go screaming to everyone "I BROKE A RULE!!!". Report quietly.
Don't go tattle-tale-ing as soon as you see a rule broken.
Why? It pisses them off more.
Screws everyone over.
Look what happened with Hana. She blocked non-Japanese users.
Don't think that she is the only one who can do that.
